Vintage 1965 Crown Trifari Jewels of India Pierced Earrings | Alfred Philippe | Faux Emerald Pavé Crystal | Gold Plated

Vintage 1965 Crown Trifari Jewels of India Pierced Earrings | Alfred Philippe | Faux Emerald Pavé Crystal | Gold Plated

$800.00

A rare find from one of the most celebrated lines in American costume jewelry history - the 1965 Trifari "Jewels of India" collection, designed by the legendary Alfred Philippe in the final years of his storied career.

These earrings are genuinely uncommon. The "Jewels of India" line was produced primarily with clip-on backs in keeping with the era, making pierced examples significantly harder to find. Each earring features a large, luminous domed faux emerald green cabochon at the center, surrounded by pavé-set crystal rhinestones, with accents of ruby red and sapphire blue pear-shaped cabochons at the base - a perfect miniature of the design language found throughout the full set.

Measurements: Approximately 1" diameter.
Materials: Gold-plated base metal, pavé crystal rhinestones, faux emerald green, ruby red, and sapphire blue glass cabochons.
Condition: Excellent. All cabochons and crystals are present and secure. No chips, cracks, or missing stones. Gold plating is bright and even. The post findings are in good working order.

A note on the clutches: The earrings are fitted with wide comfort-disk clutches stamped with the Trifari script logo. This is consistent with Trifari's practice of branding secondary components (findings, clutches, and hangtags) with the script logo separately from the Crown Trifari hallmark stamped on the jewelry itself. These are believed to be original. The pieces were acquired from an estate where they were maintained in their original, undisturbed condition, which supports their authenticity.

Hallmark: Crown Trifari © R stamped on the back of each earring.

A Brief History:
Trifari was founded in New York in 1918 by Gustavo Trifari, the grandson of a Neapolitan goldsmith. The brand's transformation into an American institution began in 1930 with the hiring of Alfred Philippe, a master craftsman who had previously worked at both Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Philippe brought fine jewelry standards to costume jewelry - hand-set crystals, delicate settings, and sophisticated design - blurring the line between fashion and fine.
The "Jewels of India" collection was introduced in 1965 as one of Philippe's final and most celebrated series before his retirement in 1968. Drawing on the opulent gem-set jewelry traditions of the Mughal era, the line featured richly colored faux cabochon stones in emerald, ruby, and sapphire tones, set in pavé crystal-encrusted gold-plated settings. It remains one of the most sought-after Trifari lines among serious collectors today.

The companion butterfly brooch and bracelet from this set are available separately in my shop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept returns/exchanges?

The short answer is no, however refunds and exchanges will be handled on a case-by-case basis. You will be responsible for paying for your own non-refundable shipping costs for returning and receiving your item. We do not give refunds or exchanges due to color issues, size, wear and tear, jewelry damage after arrival, or if you just simply "don't like it". Please see "Care Instructions" for information on how to properly care for your vintage items.
If you have any questions about an item, please contact us BEFORE ordering, to insure the item is as you expected when it arrives. We try to list the details of every item, but encourage you to look at any pictures as well, and let us know if you have any questions.

Do you ship outside the U.S.?

At this time we are only able to ship to the U.S. Please check back often if you are not in the U.S., as we are hoping to add international shipping in the future.

Do you combine shipping costs if I want more than one item?

Yes! If you are interested in purchasing multiple items, I DO combine shipping! Etsy should automatically combine these costs at checkout however, if you notice that the shipping is double what you would normally pay, please contact me, and I will create a custom listing for you.

Can I see a photo of the item being worn?

We generally do not try on or wear the pieces for photographs, because they are previously unworn to begin with. Some people might feel it is unsanitary to purchase previously worn jewelry (earrings mainly). We do have some mannequin displays that allow us to show what it would look similar to while being worn. Please look at the measurements in the listing description to determine the sizes of each piece, and as always, please let us know if you have any questions about an item before purchasing.

Care instructions

Store jewelry at room temperature in a dry place.

• Excess moisture or heat can cause damage.
• Never immerse your jewelry in water.
• For best results, store each piece separately in a plastic zip bag.
• To clean your jewelry, use a soft cloth, such as a silver cleaning cloth.

Gold plated and silver plated items will not retain their color with prolonged daily wear.

If your jewelry breaks, we are happy to provide simple instructions and suggestions on how to repair a piece, if it is possible.

Vintage jewelry is often brittle from being stored for decades, but with proper care and handling, your jewelry will last for decades to come.
